‘Jimi and I toured together when I was with The Nice,’ Keith Emerson says.

‘His drummer, Mitch Mitchell, talked about getting him to join ELP, but, quite honestly, I wasn’t that interested.

'I’d jammed with Jimi, and he was so loud he would have drowned me out.’

Greg Lake adds: ‘Keith and Jimi both understood music brilliantly, but there would have been clashes. Plus, we’d have had to call ourselves HELP!’
