VASTMANLANDS LANS TIDNING - ‘Jimi Hendrix Created Magic With His Guitar And With The Audience’- review by “Christer”:
“Jimi Hendrix is the name of the young man who recently stirred the minds of most of the youths who attended his performance at Vasterås Sports hall on Thursday evening. Close to 1,500 youths attended the two shows, at which you also could see Mersy Sect, AB Musik, Outsiders and Deejays.
The other bands performed before Jimi Hendrix, and Outsiders, who are taking a chance in England, got the biggest approval from the audience.
When Jimi Hendrix and his Experience, consisting of Mitch Mitchell and Noel Redding, entered the stage a deathly silence came over the audience. One got the feeling that a great part of the youths held their breath while the tall, dark-skinned man connected his guitar to his huge amplifiers.
He shows an incredibly inventive mind when it comes to playing his guitar and sometimes he plays it behind his head, between his legs, on the floor, in the air and it is ground against the mikestand, amplifier and wrists.
Sure there are some among the 1,500 spectators who don’t appreciate his loud volume, but Jimi plays for the youth and everybody knows that most people in the era of pop enjoy loud volume. Is it then pop that Jimi plays? Jimi answered that question like this: - “It is not pure pop, but if someone says that it is a rhythm and blues with its roots in both pop and jazz it is probably as close as you can get.”
After approximately a forty-five minute show the whole audience could shout “Yes We Are Experienced” and Jimi ends by picking up a flower thrown by someone, smiles at the audience, switches his amplifier from “Stand By” to “On” and with help from the switches on his guitar starts the intro to “Purple Haze”. During this last tune he uses all his gimmicks and he even plays with his tongue, an achievement that looks for its mate.
When the tune is over he throws his guitar at the amplifiers and leaves the stage almost grieving with the applause hailing over him, the tall man with the incredible big hair.”
