Je suis en train de l'écouter... un bon concert, avec de très belles versions (l'intro de Stone Free est étonnante (on dirait Big Ben...) suivi par un énergique Lover Man et là un Red House pas mal du tout )... tout cela s'annonce bien...

Le son n'est pas top mais s'améliore peu à petit... on entend par contre trés bien la guitare... :love:

Par contre l'intro du Freedom est quasi inaudible... le son est criard... et super loin... (là ça ne s'améliore pas du tout !) une horreur

On dirait qu'il y a différentes sources... la qualité audio du Foxy n'est pas bonne mais bien meilleure que pour Freedom... (un coup de dents, même en 70, et le public s'excite toujours autant...)

Purple haze son pas top mais on capte très bien ce qui se passe. Le public est chaud... les lampes aussi ) et direct sur Star Spangled Banner, bonne version mais très (trop) courte, qui s'enchaîne sur un All Along The Watchtower au son correct et à la version électrique... ça fuse : Jimi a une patate sur ce show ! (par contre, virez moi les cons qui tapent dans leurs mains... ça fait du bruit... c'est l’inconvénient des enregistrements audiences).

Message to love (avec un petit faux départ) joué à fond la caisse... et un son dans la même veine que les autres. La guitare est bien audible, le reste est plus par derrière, mais ça s'écoute. Jimi avait envie de pisser ou quoi... ça speed c'est la folie... il te riffe le plan funky de Message to love comme un kamikaze en pleine attaque... et la fin est magnifique...

Fire : son idem, énergie idem...

Spanish Castle Magic : son correct et version bien envoyée. Ce titre est placé assez étrangement à la fin de concert, alors qu'en général Jimi le jouait plutôt au début (même chose pour Fire)

Et on termine par un Voodoo Chile (ça fait étrange de le voir arriver après Spanish) avec une guitare ÉNORME qui arrache tout (et une coupure surprenante...on a l'intro en double...).
Quelle version encore : eXpLoSiVe !!!!

Bref un bon concert, avec une qualité d'enregistrement moyenne (ça reste un boot audience) mais qui s'en tire pas si mal (sauf pour un titre : Freedom... )

Naturally, Hendrix was his clever self, swinging and swaying, grinding to the oft high-pitched whining guitar, plucking with his teeth. But it was not the same dynamic tension of two years ago: the infamous stone rapping that pleased so many, the excitement of his stage theatrics...His guitar dexterity never ceases to amaze me, and his colourful attire has to be seen to be believed, but the man is much more. The people loved him. They clapped and applauded where necessary and generally approved of what they saw. I guess that's all that really matters.

Hendrix didn't seem to get overly involved in his music as he used to... It didn't really matter to the starry-eyed crowd, mostly between the ages of 18-21, whose feelings were just about summed up by someone who shouted "Hendrix is God!"

De ce concert, le site officiel dit : "L'Expérience - et Jimi en particulier - était en grande forme cette soirée". Et c'est tout à fait exact : c'est l'un des grands concerts de cette année 1970, avec une setlist pourtant pas des plus intéressantes sur le papier (ni "Hear My Train A Comin'", ni "Machine Gun").

On dirait qu'il y a différentes sources...

Ce titre est absent de la meilleure source. L'ATM combine les sources 1 et 2, et "Freedom" est effectivement issu d'une autre source.

Selon les critères de l'époque, c'est un très bon pirate pour un enregistrement "Audience".
Si Mitch Mitchell est la plupart du temps inaudible, la basse de Billy Cox et le chant de Jimi sont présents. Mais il faut surtout noter que la guitare de Jimi passe très bien.

En ce qui concerne la musique, c'est un trio au sommet de sa forme qui se produit ce 27 juin 1970. Les improvisations ne s'étirent pas trop, mais il n'y a aucun temps mort, les interprétations sont toutes solides et inspirées.

Difficile d'isoler un titre en particulier tant Jimi est dedans ("Red House", "All Along The Watchtower"...), mais il est vrai que Jimi livre un solo absolument fantastique sur "Voodoo Child (Slight Return)". Après un passage d'une intensité formidable, il joue de subtils traits à la wah wah qui sont un véritable plaisir. Jimi s'autorise même un peu d'humour musical en début de dernier couplet.

Quel concert ! Très rock, avec peu de titres inconnus du public... qui a dû passer une sacrée soirée.

Note sur la source 3 : celle-ci est nettement moins bonne que l'ATM... mais la batterie audible : peut-être qu'un Merge serait effectivement le bienvenu ?

I found this source few months ago reading a comment about it on another site. Contacted the guy, and to make the long story short, he sent me the copy of the master provided by his friend who actually taped the concert but didn't think anybody would be interested for the recording (!!). Thank you Marc!
I also included EQ-d version just to show you how much you can actually improve this recording with a good equalizer.

Je trouve le début de cette source 3 moins audible, par contre elle s'améliore au fur et à mesure et on a par exemple un "Freedom" audible contrairement à l'ATM.

BOSTON AFTER DARK - ‘Hendrix was good’ by ‘G.P’:
“Fulfilling his promise to come to Boston after having cancelled last year’s Summerthing appearance, - Jimi Hendrix finally arrived, Experience and all. Those who have had the enjoyable pleasure of previously witnessing Mr. Hendrix could have more wisely utilized their time and money else where. Naturally Hendrix was his clever self, swinging and swaying, grinding to the oft high-pitched whining guitar, plucking with his teeth. But it was not the same dynamic tension of two years ago; the infamous stone rapping that pleased so many, the excitement of his stage theatrics. To begin with, the warm-up acts were, for the most part, tedious. Illusion did succeed in spiriting the solemn audience into a clapping, foot- stomping exercise, but loudness prevailed throughout most of their set.
Cactus commenced with a healthy rebel-rousing “Long Tall Sally” but quickly settled down into a monotonous routine. Bassist Tim Bogert, formerly with the Vanilla Fudge, contributed his usual sparkling performance, but the lack of musical coherence among the group failed to ignite anything positive.
Adding to the sheer immensity of the Boston Garden was the noticeably bitchy attitude of our darling police force which received immeasurable satisfaction out of keeping the aisles clear of spectators digging the concert or taking pictures. Cactus’ lead singer wanted the Garden throng to enjoy themselves and never mind the blue-coats but it is difficult because of the cowbarn atmosphere and formality of North Station. I was hoping for Hendrix to somehow unite the stragglers; however, the customary procedure of an hour playing time unfortunately became the rule. To no avail would sensual Jimi return for an encore, and I think the bummer environment proved too much for him.

“Jimi Hendrix came to Boston Garden on Saturday night and proved that he is once again in top form. Playing with him were Mitch Mitchell, the drummer who worked in the original Jimi Hendrix Experience, and Billy Cox, who served as bassist in Hendrix’s most recent group, Band of Gypsys.
Together the trio produced a sound that was almost symphonic. Hendrix’s absolutely certain rhythmic sense never lapsed for a moment. His guitar technique was flawless.
HENDRIX’S perfection of style is especially astounding because it pos up amid the excesses of psychedelic rock, a genre which has traditionally been mindless, sloppy and overpraised. During his set Hendrix seldom took his foot of the wah-wah pedal and seldom played a line that was not distorted by echoes, shrill, or fuzz. Yet his rhythm is so perfect and his playing so fluid that he shapes all the distortion into coherent music. He [?] was at the height of his histrionics [?] when [?] that suggested an explosion in the offing.
HENDRIX GAVE a complete performance. Dressed in fluorescent red pants and a tunic with cathedral sleeves, he moved with the grace of a panther. He was beautiful to watch.
The audience, which to judge from its indiscriminately enthusiastic reaction to the warm-up acts knew very little, did know it’s Hendrix. The crowd responded as one. For certain songs, the congregation rose and clapped in time; for others the congregation remained seated. All the responses seemed to have been agreed upon in advance.
There were two warm up acts. The four members of Cactus, two of them refugees from the old Vanilla Fudge, huffed, puffed and pounded away with an utter lack of rhythmic sense. Their sound was radically unbalanced – to such an extent that the sloppy work of the vocalist drowned out the drummer. Cactus served as an ideal foil to Hendrix; they played the same kind of distorted rock without having the least idea what they were doing.”
