“The Fillmore East…was sold out twice.., for concerts by the Jimi Hendrix Experience. Mr. Hendrix. . was undoubtedly responsible for filling the 2,845 seats for each concert. And the impatient audience made it clear that not even the excitements of the Sly Stone group would satisfy it for long.”

“At the end of his recent concert, Jimi Hendrix seductively reverberating his guitar, stripped the audience of any and all of their various body coverings, leaving some in the usual climactic frenzy, others standing in wide-eyed paralysis, while many people made speedy exits.
For most people, having your mind bared is too much body exposure.”

It’s really dumb when you think about it. Hendrix blew everybody’s mind when his first album was released. That was because his music defied belief. His success was measured by his talent, I hope, and not the size of his crotch.
Hendrix had something for everybody that night. When a guy called out ‘Take off your hat,’ Hendrix smiled and said, ‘I’ll take off my hat if you take off your pants.’ His philosophy seemed to be: get it from a chick, get it from a guy, get it from a guitar, but get it. Well, that’s cool too, if that’s your bag and if it doesn’t interfere with the audiences’ appreciation of the music and sometimes it does. I think it weakened his concert, that plus the fact that the amps kept going on the blink, breaking the spell and the rhythm of the show.
As usual Noel Redding and Mitch Mitchell were in top shape. There’s nothing that can be said to describe The Experience’s music - in concert or on record - it makes no difference. They’re great”

“Serious amplifier problems couldn’t diminish the excitement generated by the powerful piercing sounds of the Jimi Hendrix Experience in one of the trio’s two shows before packed houses at the Fillmore East on Friday (10). An act that depends on a large volume of sound for effect, the Jimi Hendrix Experience was hampered by almost continuous static although sometimes this was drowned out by the volume, especially as Hendrix reached high pitches with his electric guitar... The Reprise Records artists performed a lengthy second set, which included an overpowering performance of ‘Hey Joe’ and two of the trio’s earliest singles ‘Purple Haze’ and ‘Foxy Lady’. ‘Red House’ and ‘Baby Please Don‘t Fall Out Your Window’ [sic] were other good numbers. In the unit’s encore ‘Wild Thing’ Hendrix was at his wailing best, while bass guitarist Noel Redding and drummer Mitch Mitchell continued the powerful support they had given all evening.”
