Jimi: “Me, The World’s greatest? [guitarist] That’s silly. Now, I appreciate them saying that, but it’s pretty hard to say who the greatest is. I just play. I consider myself lucky. I had a chance to be heard... I want people to come and see us because of our music. I don’t know what to call it. Psychedelic soul is all right. But, remember, there are three of us Noel, the bass player, likes rock. Mitch Mitchell, the drummer, is a jazz addict. And I go for blues things and, really, anything from blues to Bach, as long as it holds my interest. Our music is a mixture of all these things. And sometimes we might want to do something mellow, get into a different bag. With some stupid label, then where could we go? I don’t know what direction music is taking. But the quality is getting so much better. People are getting so much wiser. They want to hear the best in that field, no matter what type of music they hear. I hope a World war won’t come around and mess it up. Music is going the right way. Of course, I’m glad that the quality is improving. And there’s an extra fringe benefit. I’m happy as strawberry pie... I like to witness different types of life - rich and poor. I have only one life to live.”
