South Shields (New Cellar Club) : 1er février 1967

"Jimi and his band appeared at the New Cellar Club, South Shields, on February 1, 1967.

Another up and coming act turned up at the club just to see Jimi. Then named Gerry Dorsey and appearing at the nearby La Strada nightclub, he was soon to become famous as Engelbert Humperdink.

But it seems it was not the best night to see Jimi. According to Noel Redding, it was about the only bad gig they had done to date.

“We arrived late and were in a bit of a rush. We were on the back of a revolving stage just getting tuned, ready to be swung round any minute when Jimi’s amp blew, so he plugged into mine and I looked around for something to borrow.”

The show was apparently recorded by the drummer of The Bond, who were supporting the Hendrix Experience on the night."

"Very interesting. Some of this is true, a lot of it is made up. I played at the Cellar gig with the support band. My memory is that The experience used the house PA which was terrible, since one of their marshall's had gone. Our Drummer was called Robin Thompson. He didn't record the gig, although we did record the Cream three months earlier at the opening night of the new cellar. Hendrix was great. Those pictures are from the Shields Gazette archives, although not the last two. The first one looks funny too. Hendrix was a fantastic performer. Standouts from the set for me were Mercy Mercy, Wild Thing, Foxy Lady, Hey Joe. I think he did Like a Rolling Stone too, but that may be wishful thinking."

If anyone has any more photos from the show please post them. There is also supposed to be a photo taken before the show of Jimi with Gerry Dorsey (Englebert Humperdink) who turned up to watch the show after finishing his set at nearby La Strada night club. Anyone got it ?

Si n'importe qui a n'importe quel plus de photos du spectacle la s'il vous plaît poste les. Aussi est là supposé pour être une photo a pris avant que le spectacle de Jimi avec Gerry Dorsey (Englebert Humperdink) qui est relevé regarder le spectacle après finir sa série à tout près La Strada boîte de nuit. N'importe qui l'a obtenu ?
