Enregistré sans doute le 18 mars 1968, publié en 1972.

La version de "Red House" est unique - et c'est ce qui fait tout son intérêt. Vous remarquerez que Jimi utilise ici une rythmique presque identique à celle du "Crossroads" de Cream (qui n'était pas disponible sur disque alors).
La jam part plutôt sur de bonnes bases, même si le mixage pose parfois problème : la guitare de Jimi est mixée en avant même lorsqu'il est à la rythmique. Je trouve les solos de Jimi incisifs, et les versions de bonne tenue pour une jam... jusqu'à l'arrivée de Jim Morrison, qui est raide blindé, et fait tomber l'intensité de trois crans.
La performance de Morrison ne présente aucun intérêt musical, mais renseignera ses fans sur ses préférences sexuelles du moment. Le solo de Jimi est clairement le meilleur passage de "Morrison's Lament".
Après le départ de Morrison (qui ne devait pas être loin du coma !), Jimi embraye avec le répertoire de Cream, lançant les riffs du "Outside Woman Blues" et de "Sunshine Of Your Love". Malheureusement, on ne peut pas dire que cela inspire les musiciens qui l'accompagnent, et mis à part un solo complètement free de Jimi, assez impressionnant, la musique ne décolle pas d’un poil.

La date retenu sur Early Hendrix est le 18 mars. Just Ask The Axis retient le 7 mars, et Doug Bell le 6 mars 1968, mais avec un point d'interrogation. Il identifie les titres suivants :

For many years, Johnny Winter was rumored to have been the second guitarist heard on the tape. Winter, however, has emphatically denied any participation in a number of interviews. Others have speculated that Rick Derringer was the second guitarist. A more likely scenario would be Eire Apparent guitarist Mick Cox. Cox was among a group of people in possession of the infamous tape in late 1970.

Selon le site In from the storm, la date de la jam au Scene Club serait donc le 18 mars 1968, et le personnel le suivant :

Cette jam explique pourquoi autant de personnes parlent du coté brouillon de Jimi Hendrix... alors que le grand public ne devrait pouvoir connaitre que des enregistrements de qualité. Comme pirate, le disque est Ok, mais dans les bacs des disquaires aux côtés de "Are You Experienced", il pose clairement problème.

Comme d'hab me direz vous ? Oui sauf que là c'est sur un lebel (Universe) qui a l'air d'être largement diffusé puisque c'est dispo partout sur le net (Deezer, ITunes, Lastfm, Play.com, Spotify, etc)

Jimi en 2010 : toujours pas de RAH mais tout le monde peut télécharger légalement cette Jam pourrie. C'est beau l'progrès...

La jam n'est pas si pourrie... C'est le fait qu'elle soit vendue "officiellement" et dans les proportions qu'on connait qui est pourri !

Il faudra que je m'y repenche, mais j'ai un très mauvais souvenir de ma dernière écoute.

*Woke Up This Morning and Found Myself Dead" is one of the most popular Hendrix bootlegs and for good reason. Recorded at New York City's Scene Club in 1968, this show exists under several titles through multiple small-time CD companies. "Woke Up This Morning and Found Myself Dead" is what this show is called as released through the Red Lighting label. The performance features a legendary line-up with Jim Morrison and Johnny Winter. Morrison with Hendrix? You read correctly. Jim doesn't sing as much as he slobbers drunken obscenities. Depending on one's sensibilities, the listener will either find this hilarious or offensive; indeed, the neutrally titled 'Morrison's Lament' could have been more accurately titled 'f*** her in the *ss!' The setlist is another *sset for this show. The band plays a Beatles song, a tune by Cream and a few of Jimi's favorite Blues standards. The treatment is loose, highly improvisational and will have high appeal to those from the jamband school of music. As far as bootlegs go, the recording quality is excellent thanks to the soundboard recording. This is a true piece of 1960's nostalgia: Hendrix jammin' with some buddies in one of his favorite New York City clubs. For those who've listened to all of Jimi's records a thousand times, "Woke Up This Morning and Found Myself Dead" shows a rare and most refreshing side of Hendrix.*
Vu par Amazon... j'adore la dernière ligne... il donne tellement envie de l'acheter mais, le contenu, que j'ai en partie avec mon drôle de K-Box Set dont j'ai fait la chronique comprend quelques morceaux (uranus Rock, Red House/Crossroad et Outside Woman Blues.

Quelque chose m'avait frappé au sujet de cette jam : je l'ai découverte via un CD s'appelant "Live at the Scene Club, NY, NY", tout à fait correct au niveau du son, mais avec toute la jam sur une seule plage (enfer et damnation!). J'ai ensuite écouté diverses versions, et un jour, un "Bleeding Heart" plus long m'a sauté aux oreilles, sur un double CD pourtant bien nase (le CD 2 d'un double CD juste appelé "Jimi Hendrix"...). J'avais écouté deux ou trois versions avec un "Bleeding Heart" qui était "fadé" au même endroit, et là je me retrouvais avec une version plus longue...

Why Did Jimi Hendrix hate Jim Morrison?

While the 1960s may have been the age of superstar collaborations, it was by no means the era of friendly camaraderie. The golden age of rock is riddled with stories of bitter rivalry, backstabbing, and the occasional drunken brawl. Two of the scene’s most prominent figures, Jimi Hendrix and Jim Morrison, were guilty of all three of these things. But why did they hate each other so much? Well, the answer lies in the jam session held back in 1968.

The Summer of Love may have been in full swing when Hendrix and Morrison met on stage at the uber-cool New York club The Scene, but peace and love was certainly not on the menu. A number of famous heads were in the audience that night, including Janis Joplin. Also in the crowd was Lester Chambers, vocalist of The Chamber brothers. As he recalled: “We were the house band at the Cheetah club, just a few blocks away on Broadway. When we finished at the Cheetah we would walk over to the Steve Paul Scene. You would come in off the street, go down four or five steps and you were in the club. It was a small space, maybe a hundred people at the most, so you got to mingle with whoever was there: John Lennon, Johnny Winter, Buddy Miles; if Janis Joplin was in town she’d be there; Al Kooper of the Blues Project was down there a lot.”

After the last act had finished their set, the waitresses would clear the tables and usher the diners back to their cars where they would start the long drive back to the suburbs. With the stage cleared and the night’s performers mingling in the dressing rooms, the real fun would begin. Slowly but surely, they would descend on the stage, embarking on a series of extended jams that attracted some of the biggest names in the business, including Jimi Hendrix.

Shortly after Hendrix arrived – leaping to the stage to fill in on guitar – Jim Morrison of The Doors stumbled in, blind drunk and itching for a fight. “When Morrison showed up he was very intoxicated, God knows on what, and he was slurring, very stoned,” audience members Michael J Weber later noted. “Jim was an ornery character when he wanted to be. He was very in-your-face. But everybody was at that time.”

But Morrison’s arrogance didn’t sit well with Hendrix, who is is said to have taken an immediate disliking to him. “Jimi was very different from Morrison. He had a lovely vibe about him,” Weber continued. “He was very shy and reserved. He was the same soft-spoken guy when he talked to women. Morrison was very abrupt, he said whatever he wanted to say.”

Before he’d even bought a drink, Morrison swaggered over to Janis Joplin, sat down next to her and pulled her hair down to the floor. In response, Joplin is alleged to have grabbed a bottle of Southern Comfort from the table and dashed it against his bulk. Somehow uninjured, Morrison jumped onto the stage where Hendrix and the others were jamming and started wailing, completely unable to hold a tune in his inebriated state. “He was so drunk he had to hold on to the mic stand, and every once in a while, he’d go: “Oooooooh! Waughhhhhh! Awoweee,” Chambers remembered. “At one point, Jimi said: ‘Ladies and gentlemen, you have heard the sound of Jim Morrison’”.

Determined not to let Hendrix have the last laugh, Morrison tried an even cruder tactic: getting down on his knees and giving Hendrix a sort of mock blowjob. “So Morrison has his arms wrapped ’round Jimi’s legs and he’s still screaming: ‘I wanna suck your cock!’ Danny Fields, a publicist who Elektra Records who attended the concert, recalled. “He was very loud. And Hendrix was still attempting to play. Morrison wouldn’t let go. It was a tasteless exhibition of scene-stealing – something Morrison was really into. To top it all off, Janis, who had been sitting in the back of the room, saw this happening and suddenly appeared at the edge of the stage with a bottle in one hand and her drink in the other.”

The performance ended with the three musicians wrestling in a pile on the floor – Jimi going for Morrison, Morrison swinging for Joplin and vice versa. In the end, they had to be dragged off stage. Morrison, unsurprisingly, suffered the most injuries, having felt the full force of Hendrix and Joplin’s fists of fury. I suppose that’s what you get for taking the focus away from the music.
